Formcode Design Group is officially +1 as of today. Born in Midland, MI and now a native of Royal Oak, Valerie Soares is the newest designer to join our little operation. We sat down for a brief but lovely Q&A to introduce you to Valerie. Enjoy!
So where did you go to school?
Columbus College of Art & Design (Columbus, OH – across from Ohio State University). I graduated in spring of 2011.
And how long have you been a designer?
I’ve been a creative my whole life, but officially since sophomore year in high school when I had an internship for graphic design. So that would make it about 8 years.
What is it that you like about design?
Probably every designer would answer, “Because we make things pretty.” It’s true, but deeper than that, a designer has the ability to completely alter and/or fabricate a reaction that can persuade any sort of action. It’s incredible how powerful it can be, and I like to see it all unfold and cause the reaction I intend for. Anyone can get excited about great design, no matter what your profession is. Not to mention the flexibility, excitement and fun that comes from a design atmosphere.
What are some of your favorite hobbies?
I’m a runner. I enjoy taking part in 10k races over the summertime. I also love to read, read, read. My favorite genre is mystery.
What kind of music do you dig?
I tend to listen to more radio than my own music because I get bored of the same things over and over again. My favorite station is Klove 106.3. If I were to pick a favorite genre it would be the bouncy kind – pop and dance.
Not really. Some people prefer to call me Val, but that’s not very fun (haha).
Tell us something interesting about yourself!
I laugh too loudly most of the time, but life is good like that. I am married to a Brazilian accountant, which literally makes him my exact opposite. And it is completely impossible for me to stay away from chocolate when it is within 10 yards of my person.
Designer, runner, reader, chocoholic – we are very much looking forward to working with Valerie and believe she will prove to be a major asset to the Formcode family. Thanks for your time, Valerie!
